MY NEW BOOK
Today I was so kindly given this book about Romantic English Homes. The book was bought at Books & Company a small charming 'international book cafe' just across the street from where I live. If you ever get the chance, do stop by this little book heaven.
I find the over-the-top interiors of many UK homes interesting. The style with a lot of build-in shelves, painted doors in bold high gloss colors, hugh paintings in golden frames, marble, wood, heavy carpets and lots and lots of textiles a great enjoyment. I wouldn't decorate my own home like this but I think a lot of the ideas can be translated into a more simple Scandinavian style.
P.S. I love the way the book was wrapped.

YUMMI MUMMY
Charlotte Torpegaard is the beauty expert behind the 'Yummi Mummy' book (COMING SOON)
I'm not really into those sort of 'be-the-perfect-mother-and-the-sexiest-lover' books!!
There are thousands of those kind of disillusioning books out there trying to complicate and 'Barbiefy' the stressful time in your life when your kids are small.
Lets face it - it's not the best time in your life to start lap dancing classes, have eyelash extension sessions every other week or have regular pedicure treatments even if some of these books are trying to make you believe it will be the best thing you have ever done.. IT'S NOT!
There are far more important (and less expensive and time consuming) things to do when your kids are small and need you the most!
GRRRRR..! Don't get me started on this foolish superficial subject..
The nonsense I have read in some of these so called cute girly 'mother to mother' books is UNBELIEVABLE!
Right.. -now back to the actual content of this blog post..
The book 'Yummi Mummy' is actually on my wish list (it's not out yet but you can sign up using the link below) because I find Charlotte Torpegaard mature, and wise and detailed when it comes to her research of beauty products and treatments AND she has a little boy herself so hopefully there will be no silly 'over the top ' advises in the book.

MY READING LIST THIS MONTH
I was given this nice little book about the goodness of dogs by a fellow dogs admirer.
The drawings are delicate and the text calm and positive.
I can't wait to dig in to this Jacqueline Kennedy book!
My husband started teaching earlier on this year and he is now doing a shorter degree in Pedagogy.
He has HUGH piles of books lying around the flat and I can't help by stick my nose into some of them.
This one discusses the complexity of teaching, VERY interesting reading.
Ulla Terkelsen is a famous Danish TV reporter who has had an interesting life covering breaking news from all over the world for more than 40 years. I find the writing of the book a bit messy but the message is clear and inspiring. She sure has seen the world..
It's not heavy stuff dominating my reading list this month since my pregnancy hormones are making me cry about almost everything these days!
Can't wait to get the little Huxi out and go back to normal..

MY READING LIST THIS SUMMER
These books are all on my night stand and I'm looking forward to reading each and every one of them during the summer.
Daniele Bott: Chanel -I cannot wait to study all the beauty up close!
Amy Chua: Battle hymn of the tiger mother -I'm not sure what to expect but I think it will be a bit controversial and maybe even an eye opener to the Scandinavian way of raising children.
Muriel Barbery: Pindsvinets elegance - I was given this book by a close friend who absolutely loves it, I can't wait to dig into it..
Suzanne Brøgger: Breve til Prinsen af Magadonien -I'm almost through with it, it's a well written amusing book, recommendable.

GORE VIDAL
Gore Vidal (born 1925) is an American author, playwright, essayist, screenwriter, with a mile long and very impressive list of work behind him.
Early in his career he wrote 'The City and the Pillar' (1948), which outraged critics as one of the first major American novels to feature unambiguous homosexuality. Vidal has had affairs with both men and women. The novelist Anaïs Nin claimed an involvement with Vidal in her memoir 'The Diary of Anaïs Nin' but Vidal denied it in his memoir 'Palimpsest'.
He was briefly engaged to Joanne Woodward, before she married Paul Newman, after eloping, the couple shared a house with Vidal in Los Angeles for a short time.
In 1950, he met his long-term partner Howard Austen.
Vidal also ran for political office twice and served as a longtime political critic.
He was strongly critical of the Bush Administration listing it among administrations he considered to have either an explicit or implicit expansionist agenda. He has described George W. Bush as "the stupidest man in the United States".
"I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I'm a conspiracy analyst. Everything the Bushites touch is screwed up. They could never have pulled off 9/11, even if they wanted to. Even if they longed to. They could step aside, though, or just go out to lunch while these terrible things were happening to the nation. I believe that of them" Vidal once said.

KAJ
This is top quality reading.
Herbert (two years old this coming summer) was given the book 'Kaj er væk' by a very special friend, who knows exactly what he likes!
The story is about a little boy Kaj and his teddy Lise.
The two of them hide under the duvet and therefore his mummy can't find them.
There are 8-9 pages in the book and only one sentence per page.
To Herbert it is HIGHLY dramatic every night when I read it to him, his eyebrows are all curled up and his eyes worried until we get to the last page where the Mummy finds Kaj and his Teddy.
He LOVES this story, we must have read it hundreds of times already and it is equally exciting every time.
Mats Letén has written around 10 books about Kaj and his Teddy Lise.

BEEN WAITING FOR MONTHS..
I bought one of the pretty calendars from Astier de Villatte about two months ago and have been waiting with a lack of patience to start using it. JUHUUUU.. Its finally 2011 and can take the calendar out of my 'still life' on my desk and actually write down my appointments on the pages.
By the way Astier de Villatte has got a very peculiar but clever web site.

LUELLA'S STYLE GUIDE
Luella Bartley is making waves once again through fashion, this time as an author of the book ’Luella’s Guide to English Style’. I was given the book by my lovely friend Anne from LA Graphic Design and I can't wait to read it.
Her book ’Luella’s Guide to English Style’ is a leap on from her initial career in fashion journalism at Vogue, Dazed and Confused etc before launching her much loved label, that unfortunately shut down last year. The book sets out to capture what it is that makes English girls the coolest in the world? More of an anthropological study than a style guide the book seems very funny and informative. Luella Bartley was crowned Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in 2008 and received an honor from the Queen last year.
