OH HAPPY DAYS!

We went to Lanzerote last year in February - it was the perfect time of year to leave Copenhagen and enjoy the sun somewhere else in the world.  This year around there is no nice sunny holiday awaiting us because of my growing baby bump.. We just have to cross our fingers that the sun will stop by Copenhagen for a bit of winter sun and get the most out of it at home..

But looking at these photos I must admit I miss the hot sunny weather, no make up, blond hair, lazy days by the swimming pool, tanned skin and spending 24 hours a day with my little family not having to worry about anything but ordering the next soft drink :-)

Returned back to rainy Denmark from Italy last night after having spent 7 days in this boiling hot Italian resort with these two wonderful men..

MARK ROTHKO

Mark Rothko (1903-1970) in my opinion one of the greatest abstract expressionists of all times.
In 1936, Rothko began writing a book (never completed) about similarities in the art of children and the work of modern painters. According to Rothko, the work of modernists, influenced by primitive art, could be compared to that of children in that "child art transforms itself into primitivism, which is only the child producing a mimicry of himself." In this manuscript, he observed that "the fact that one usually begins with drawing is already academic. We start with color." It is a physical and emotional, non-intellectual experience. Rothko was using fields of color in his work and his subject matter and form at this time had become non-intellectual.


Tate Modern in London has a huge room decorated with the most amazing large scale paintings by Mark Rothko, do see this room full of Rothko's masterpieces if you get the chance.

LONDON

Having spent most of my 20's living in London I find myself missing the spirit of the city from time to time.
 In particular I miss:

The natural politeness between strangers on the street, it might seem old fashion but how I miss having men holding the door for me and letting me on the bus first for no other reason than me being a woman. The chit chat about the weather (I dont miss the many rainy days!) with strangers in the pub and the huge amount of 'Thank you' and 'I'm sorry' being exchanged between everybody for no obvious reasons.

The many different areas of London that changes from upper class mansions to rough council estates within 1 or 2 streets. London has a rule where all councils are obliged to having the same number of council estates -this gives the city a mixed population and a larger acceptance and understanding of different social classes and races. 

 

















The Black Cab, I LOVE THE BLACK CAB. Its spacious, always available, quite cheap, it can take up to 5 people, the driver has a 4 years cap driver education and knows EVERY street of Greater London of the top of his head. Whats not to love...?
